“umami was a taste that could not be neatly described as one of the four basic tastes.”
–Dr. Kikunae Ikeda.
He discovered that the substance behind umami was glutamate. In 1908, the taste umami was born.( lame gile kot zaman Edward cullen hidup baru ako tau ni ;() at 1st, the idea was dismissed n being tot nonsense since people had believed in the 4 basic tastes for so long. However in 1980s his claim was officially recognised as a word to describe the taste sensation inspired by glutamate. Wow, UMAMI!!!!! ;)
p/s: now I shall find glutamate (an amino acid) n taste it. *stupid* my abah always said that my judgement on foods r unreliable or lousy. So evrytime I suggest new good foods they will just like okey, with no interest. huuuuu Kurang ajarrrrrrrrrrrrr.. sgt;(.
